CoreDNS is a fast and flexible DNS server. The key word here is flexible: with CoreDNS you are able to do what you want with your DNS data by utilizing plugins.
Security Fix(es):
An issue was discovered in CoreDNS through 1.10.1. There is a vulnerability in DNS resolving software, which triggers a resolver to ignore valid responses, thus causing denial of service for normal resolution. In an exploit, the attacker could just forge a response targeting the source port of a vulnerable resolver without the need to guess the correct TXID.(CVE-2023-28452)
CoreDNS through 1.10.1 enables attackers to achieve DNS cache poisoning and inject fake responses via a birthday attack.(CVE-2023-30464)
CoreDNS is a DNS server that chains plugins. In versions prior to 1.14.3, the DNS-over-HTTPS (DoH) GET path accepts oversized dns= query parameter values and performs URL query parsing, base64 decoding, and DNS message unpacking before rejecting the request. Unlike the POST path, which applies a bounded read via http.MaxBytesReader limited to 65536 bytes, the GET path has no equivalent size validation before expensive processing. A remote, unauthenticated attacker can repeatedly send oversized DoH GET requests to force high CPU usage, large transient memory allocations, and elevated garbage-collection pressure, leading to denial of service. This issue has been fixed in version 1.14.3.(CVE-2026-32936)
